Tampa BayWatch – My Thoughts on the Bucs

Is Cadillacs’ knee injury season ending ?

with 2 comments

The real low spot from last nights game in Charlotte was the knee injury to Cadillac Williams. Although nothing official has been announced by the Buccaneers, Cadillac looked in agony as he was taken from the field on a cart. He was hurt during an eighteen yard run, he had broken through the right side of the line and as he braced for a tackle from Chris Harris the Panthers Safety his cleats seemed to get stuck in the turf and he seemed to hyper extend his knee. Cadillac left Charlotte on crutches, his knee in a brace.

Gone for the Season ?

On crutches and wearing a plastic cast after the game, Williams spoke to the St. Petersburg Times

“I don’t know what it is. All I know is it’s severe.”

Art Valero the Bucs Running Backs coach seemed to echo Cadillacs concerns.

“It wasn’t your usual [knee] injury. He was in excruciating pain, You could see it on his face … Everyone out there knew one of the great ones in the league — one of the great kids in the league — was done.” Orlando Sentinel

I’d like to praise Steve Smith of the Panthers as he was close to the incident on the sidelines and waived frantically for the medical teams as soon as Cadillac went down. It’s great to see such sportsmanship and concern for fellow players even in a tough divsional game.

Cadillac is due for an MRI scan today to diagnose the extent of the damage. Hopefully, it’s one of those injuries that looks worse than it is although I expect the Bucs will need to prepare for the rest of the season without Cadillac Williams.
