Tampa BayWatch – My Thoughts on the Bucs

Injury Crisis at RB confirmed

So the worst has been confirmed and Michael Pittman will be out for between 6 and 8 weeks with a severe ankle sprain.

“He is getting evaluated at this point but it looks like it will be a six-to-eight-week injury,” said Gruden. “We’ll [provide an] update when we get the results of the MRI but it is a pretty good sprain, we do believe. That’s a tough blow for us.” Buccaneers.com

It’s a tough break for Pittman as he was the #1 RB after the injury to Cadillac and would bring a lot to the position. Accomplished as a receiver out of the backfield and a tough downhill runner Pittman has provided great backup behind Cadillac.

The Buccaneers website have tried to put a positive spin on things with this statement,

The cupboard isn’t bare without Pittman, thanks to the emergence of fourth-year man Earnest Graham as a productive runner and last week’s promotion of rookie Kenneth Darby from the practice squad. Buccaneers.com

However neither Darby or Graham have any real pedigree and the Bucs will be scouring the waiver wires to find help. Rumours circulated last week that the Bucs were interested in Mewelde Moore and also tried to persuade Corey Dillon out of retirement and I’m sure the Bucs will be pushing even harder this week.

The Bucs finally received some good injury news and that is the surgery for Luke Petitgout has been more successful that expected and he could be ready for the start of 1 a days in March.
