Tampa BayWatch – My Thoughts on the Bucs

Week 6 Preview – Tennessee at Tampa Bay

So the injury hit Bucs return home after taking a pounding on the road. Gone from the starting lineup are Luke Petitgout, Cadillac Williams and Michael Pittman. The injuries undoubtedly have overshadowed the past 2 games. Of the two road games it was good to come back 1-1 after a solid win against the Panthers and as predicted a beating by the Colts. Next up for the Bucs are another AFC South team, Vince Young and his Titans. The Titans are 3-1 coming off a bye week and will want the win to keep pressure on the Colts in the AFC South. The Bucs will also want the win to keep the pressure on the rest of the NFC South.

Can the Bucs D stop VY ?

The Bucs are beaten up on offence but we all know about those so i’ll concentrate on those who may see the field. Greg White, Barrett Ruud and Ike Hilliard are all carrying slight knocks but it won’t keep them out of this matchup. The Titans look far healthier and only have concerns over Albert Haynesworth, Brandon Jones, Craig Hentrich and David Thorton, none of which are likely to miss any playing time.

Keys to the Game

Run Game: Do the Bucs have one and can the Bucs stop the Titans ? Running on this Titans defence would have been difficult with a healthy backfield but missing 2 starting RB’s this looks a near on impossible task. The Titans are only giving up 72 yards on the ground and the Bucs will find it difficult to get anything going. For the Titans, who rank 4th in the league in rushing, will find a Bucs D that is strong against the run but had a poor game against the Colts. Ruud, June and Brooks will need to be on top of their game to stop White, Brown and Young out of the backfield.

Vince Young: The Bucs are very adept at dealing with scrambling QB’s after matching up against Mike Vick on a regular basis. Young is one of the best scrambling QB’s in this league and the Bucs LB’s will need all their pace to ensure that they can corral Young to prevent him taking off. Youngs ability as a passer is improving but if the Bucs can stop the running lanes then we could pressure Young into mistakes. Young threw 3 INT’s against the Falcons last week so if the Bucs pressure the Bucs secondary could profit.

The Bucs just don’t have the run game to compete and manage the clock unless Earnest Graham is the second coming of LT. The Bucs D maybe able to keep it tight but I think the Titans will have too much.Titans by 10.
