Playoff Preview: Giants at Bucs

leave a comment »

Like most fans, if at the start of the season you would have said that the Bucs would be Division champions and facing the Giants in the playoffs, I’d have told you to put the Kool Aid away. However, the Bucs have been solid this season and wrapped up the division 2 weeks ago and now face a playoff game against the Giants. It’s certainly going to be one of the toughest matchups of the season but a trip to the #1 ranked Dallas Cowboys awaits the winners. Can the Bucs magical mystery tour continue ?

Can Earnest Graham run the Bucs to the NFC Championship Game ?

Should the Bucs have rested the starters ?

leave a comment »

In the last 2 games the Bucs have rested a number of the starters, and I’m in two minds as to whether this was a good idea. At half time against the 9ers there were wholesale changes as the first teamers were benched and the backups got to play the 2nd half. This week against the Panthers, what effectively was a second team took to the field.

I understand Grudens thinking in that we need to protect the starters like Graham, Garcia and Galloway but part of me thinks that they should have at least played 1 or 2 snaps on Sunday. Timing is key on an offence and when the Bucs suit up to meet the Giants it’ll be 2 weeks since the starters have been on the field. Also what will the Bucs mind set be after two losses (albeit two close ones) ?

I just hope this doesn’t backfire next week as we’ll need to hit the ground running against the Giants. Manning and his offence had one of their best days of the season against the Patriots on Saturday and if the Bucs defence cant stop Burress and Jacobs, it will be up to the offence to try and keep the Bucs in the game.

Will Graham be better for 2 weeks on the sidelines ?

Bucs Bye Week Review

leave a comment »

After a fast start the Bucs have stumbled to the half way point of the season with a record of 5-4. The Bucs could easily be 7-2 but lost winnable games against the Lions and Jaguars. The season has progressed under a cloud of injuries to key starters but there has been a number of bright spots through the first half of the season. Jeff Garcia has been a revelation at QB and has provided key leadership under centre. Should i be happy with 5-4 or feel that the team have let slip 2 winnable games ?

Week 8 Preview – Jacksonville at Tampa Bay

The Bucs head back to the RayJay after a tough loss on the road to the Detroit Lions. Despite the fumbles that cost them the game the Bucs will be buoyed by the offensive performance led by Jeff Garcia and Earnest Graham. The Jags are 4-2 and had started to get on a roll until they came up against the Superbowl Champion Colts. However the loss was made worse when it was revealed that starting QB David Garrard will miss 3-4 weeks with a high ankle sprain.

Garrard to miss game ?

Week 7 Preview – Tampa Bay at Detroit

Fresh off another win the Bucs head north to face the Detroit Lions. The Lions are 3-2 and will be looking to keep themselves in the race for the NFC North. The Bucs have bolstered their running game this week with the signing of Michael Bennett and will need to be able to control the clock against a highly potent Detroit offence led by Jon Kitna. Detroit have one of the best WR’s cores in the league led by Roy Williams and rookie Calvin Johnson, they also possess underrated WR’s in Mike Furrey and Shaun McDonald. If Kitna can start to find his receivers then it could be a long day for the Bucs secondary.

Week 6 Preview – Tennessee at Tampa Bay

So the injury hit Bucs return home after taking a pounding on the road. Gone from the starting lineup are Luke Petitgout, Cadillac Williams and Michael Pittman. The injuries undoubtedly have overshadowed the past 2 games. Of the two road games it was good to come back 1-1 after a solid win against the Panthers and as predicted a beating by the Colts. Next up for the Bucs are another AFC South team, Vince Young and his Titans. The Titans are 3-1 coming off a bye week and will want the win to keep pressure on the Colts in the AFC South. The Bucs will also want the win to keep the pressure on the rest of the NFC South.

Week 5 Preview – Tampa Bay at Indianapolis

with one comment

The Bucs are facing their most difficult game of the season when they travel to Indianapolis to face Peyton Manning and the Colts. The Colts have started this season like they finished last season, are 4-0 and looking impressive. The Bucs must be one of the surprise packages of this season but will have their hands full on Sunday. Last week the Broncos racked up nearly 200 yards on the ground but still lost 38-20 to the Colts. Can the Bucs defence stop Manning and his offence or are the Bucs the latest team to be steam rollered at the RCA dome ?

Will the Bucs go the same way as the Saints ??
